Medicine Hat native Ronnie Burkett is often hailed as the world's foremost artist in puppet theatre for adult audiences. Inspired at the age of seven by the famous "Lonely Goatherd" marionette sequence in the film of The Sound of Music, Ronnie Burkett has been honing his art on stages around the globe for over 30 years. His performances regularly sell out, outpacing Rent and Angels in America for attendance records, and he has been recognized with multiple awards including an Obie, an Emmy and the Herbert Whittaker Drama Bench Award for Outstanding contribution to Canadian Theatre. Burkett is truly a virtuoso performer, writing his own scripts, and appearing onstage throughout each performance, manipulating and interpreting every character, from newborn ducks to dying mothers, Christ and Satan and everything in between. His shows explore the full spectrum of what it means to be human, hurt, hungry, an artist, a child, a lover. In his brand new creation, BILLY TWINKLE, Requiem for a Golden Boy, Burnett once again brings his unique wit and vision to the stage. |
