Toronto: Collective of 7 presents Daniel Spragge’s “CLINIC” March 27-31

Tuesday, January 29, 2019

The Collective of 7 is excited to present the premiere of the visceral new play CLINIC by Daniel Spragge for their inaugural production on March 27 - 31, 2019.

In an abortion clinic waiting room, a man with a broken jaw tries to make peace with his circumstances, when an off-kilter and eccentric young woman sits next to him and begins seeking his friendship, understanding, and forgiveness.

CLINIC is a play about a victim of childhood trauma who is trying to discover how to function in the world, and build meaningful relationships with others. The play aims to incite a dialogue surrounding the cyclical nature of abuse, and provoke a critical discussion about the way our society deals with sexual violence.

Playwright Daniel Spragge is an early career theatre artist who is developing work for the stage and screen. He has studied dramaturgy with Guillermo Verdecchia at Soulpepper, and Stage Direction with Richard Rose at Tarragon. This past year he was assistant director to Richard Rose on Peer Gynt (RCPA), and to Steven Gallagher on the workshop of Stars of Mars (CMTP). In the fall he will be the assistant director on a new play in Mirvish Productions’ 2019 season. Daniel's artistic practice aims to examine our notion of identity, and how we exist in a world of chaos.

Director Helen Monroe just finished a directing mentorship residency at Tarragon Theatre working as an assistant director on Hamlet, Girls Like That, and Sequence. Other credits include; Apple Butter with Jewel Weed Theatre Company (Director/Producer), Four Hours with Alumnae Theatre Company (Director), The Postman with Appledor Productions (Asst. Dir), and Avaricious with Theatre Gargantua (Artistic Intern).

Starring Nicola Hadjis (Thousand Islands Playhouse, Stirling Festival), and Erik Mrakovcic (Canadian Rep, Hart House). Set and Lighting Design by Jareth Li (Howland Company, Buddies in Bad Times, Pearle Harbour). Produced by Deanna Galati (The National Ballet of Canada, York Region Arts Council, Generator) and Daniel Spragge (Canadian Music Theatre Project, Randolph College). Stage Management by Shannon Farrell (Obsidian, Alumnae).
