Toronto: Anosh Irani’s “Buffoon” runs at the Tarragon Theatre November 20-December 15

Friday, October 25, 2019

Tarragon Theatre is thrilled to announce the world premiere of Buffoon. The play by bestselling author Anosh Irani runs in Tarragon’s Extraspace November 12 - December 15 (opening November 20).

A Clown, a Trapeze Artist, a love triangle, a one-man tour-de-force performance. WATCH as Felix the clown takes you on a journey from cradle to grave. WITNESS a life of chance haunted by inevitable fate. MARVEL at Buffoon, a heartbreaking, tragic and hilarious tale of a clown finding love at the circus.

Buffoon is a one man show where Anand Rajaram plays (at least) five different characters, primarily focused on the story of Felix, who grows up in the circus and finds his first love there. Anand’s portrayal of Felix in Buffoon shows audiences the hard face of a mother’s lack of affection and eventual infidelity as a ripple effect of his father’s debilitating injury after a trapeze accident.

“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.” - This quote from Mark Twain frames the story Felix (Ananad) tells of himself in Buffoon as he recounts the tale of the day he found out why he was born and what a Buffoon really is.

"We’re pleased to present the world premiere of Buffoon to Tarragon’s audiences,” notes Tarragon’s Artistic Director Richard Rose. "Anosh Irani is a gifted playwright whose work in Buffoon is sure to touch and entertain.”

Buffoon features Anand Rajaram (Dora Award for Outstanding Performance, Tarragon’s Mustard). Buffoon is written by Anosh Irani (Factory Theatre’s The Men in White, “Translated from the Gibberish”), with direction from Tarragon’s own Richard Rose (Tarragon’s The Message, Tarragon’s Hamlet).

Buffoon runs in Tarragon Theatre’s Extraspace from November 12 - December 15, opening officially Wednesday, November 20.
