Friday, November 15, 2019

We are excited to announce that Indrit Kasapi has been appointed Associate Artistic Director at Theatre Passe Muraille! As producer, director and choreographer, Indrit brings a wealth of experience across disciplines. He will be collaborating with Artistic Director Marjorie Chan in the execution of the company's artistic vision and the enhancement of its accessibility, circulation and community engagement strategies.

Of his appointment, Marjorie states,

“Indrit’s enthusiasm, intelligence and compassion make him an ideal bridge between our artists and the world.  He consistently brings a positive and community-oriented spirit to all that he does. A respected and bold artist in his own right, his talent and sensitivity can now also contribute to TPM’s mission of breaking down walls, by pushing against boundaries through the work developed and produced on our stages. With a passion for new work development, interdisciplinary approaches, and accessibility, Indrit is a perfect fit for Theatre Passe Muraille.”

Born in Albania, Indrit moved to Toronto in his early teens. He is the Founding and current Artistic Producer for Dora nominated and critically acclaimed independent theatre company, lemonTree creations. In 2012, Indrit launched the lemonTree {studio}, a rehearsal space that serves as a creative hub for the independent performance community. As well, Indrit acted as the Associate Artistic Producer for Cahoots Theatre (2014-2019). Indrit has also been a company member of the award winning dance theatre company CORPUS for the past 10 years, touring repertoire all over North America, Europe and Asia. He’s a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, a 2018 Harold Award Winner and was selected in 2014 by CREW Magazine as one of thirty LGBTQ Canadians who are working towards the betterment of Canadian culture and politics.

“I am beyond excited to be joining the team at Theatre Passe Muraille and support the visionary work of Artistic Director, Marjorie Chan and Managing Director, Régine Cadet. I am humbled to be a part of creating a new TPM; one that builds on the national legacy for being Canada’s original alternative theatre company and establishes it as a leader for world-class theatre that embraces collaborative and inclusive theatre practices. I am very keen to focus on compelling artists and stories that have yet to be in the spotlight and furthermore, bring these artists and stories onto the national and international artistic milieu”. -  Indrit Kasapi, on his appointment.

Indrit will also be responsible for coordinating our Accessibility Lab project funded by Toronto Arts Council (Open Door Strategic Funding), which investigates accessibility options specifically for independent artists.
