Wednesday, December 11, 2019
The Norm Foster Theatre Festival returns for its fifth season with three plays by Foster – one of his greatest hits and two world premieres.
The Melville Boys - Greatest Hit
by Norm Foster
JUNE 24 – JULY 10, 2020
“Hello country life you son of a bitch!” – Owen Melville
Lee Melville and his younger brother Owen have planned a bro fishing weekend at their aunt and uncle’s rustic cabin. Their plans go off the rails with the arrival of reserved Mary and her irrepressible sister Loretta. Fuelled by beer and Cheesies, the story unfolds with tender humour and an emotional punch to the gut.
This classic launched Norm Foster’s stellar career and remains one of his all-time best plays.
Doris and Ivy in the Home - World Premiere
by Norm Foster
JULY 15 – 31, 2020
Retired prison guard Doris Mooney has just moved in to Paradise Village, a retirement home in Canmore, Alberta. She quickly befriends Ivy Hoffbauer, a former world champion skier who’s taken aback by Doris’s cheerful brashness. Rounding out the trio is dapper Arthur Beech who has designs on Ivy.
Love, gossip and sex behind the compost heap, this is Foster at his hilarious best. Plus, you’ll learn what it means to be “Hoffbauered”!
If you loved Norm’s smash hit Jonas And Barry In The Home, you’ll find this laugh-out-loud female version is a can’t miss hoot!
Wildly Romantic - World Premiere
by Norm Foster
August 5 - 22, 2020
Set in the offices of a radio station, WILDLY ROMANTIC is a full-out romantic comedy. The Station Manager finds out that her romantic partner who is the “morning man” has been canoodling with the “all night girl”. She gives him the heave-ho and hires a new guy on the spot – experience not required! Add in her Executive Assistant and an inept lawyer looking to sue and wait for the sparks to fly!
This delightful comedy will leave you dizzy trying to figure out who will end up with whom…or not!
