Toronto: Pyretic Productions presents “Blood of Our Soil” by Lianna Makuch March 7-16

Monday, February 4, 2019

BLOOD OF OUR SOIL, nominated for four Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards, gives voice to the people whose lives have been affected by the frozen conflict in Eastern Ukraine, Europe’s current “forgotten war,” where current Russian aggression has killed more than 10,000 people, and displaced millions. The play is inspired by the experiences of the playwright’s grandparents who fled Ukraine during WWII, and the true accounts of people interviewed in conflict zones in Eastern Ukraine.

The show features a stellar all Canadian cast. Ukrainian-Canadian Lianna Makuch (playwright/performer), the Artistic Associate and Producer of Pyretic Productions; Patrick Lundeen (director), who was associate director of Bears in 2015 in Edmonton, and of the recent Toronto presentation of Bears in 2018 at Theatre Centre; and dramaturgy by multi-award winning playwright Matthew MacKenzie, whose recent playwriting/directing production Bears won two Dora Mavor Moore awards, outstanding new play and outstanding production, and was also honoured with the Playwright’s Guild of Canada's prestigious Carol Bolt Award.
