Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Soprano Jacqueline Woodley, (Dahlia, M’dea Undone 2015; Nataliya, Oksana G. 2017; Tapestry Briefs: Winter Shorts, 2017), returns to perform excerpts from Tapestry’s 39 year catalogue of new opera with pianist Andrea Grant. Woodley lends her thrilling voice to emerging artists as the vocal master clinician for New Opera 101, a 3-day intensive whose participants will join Woodley onstage March 29th and 30th.

Jacqueline has been praised for her fearless versatility, changing styles fluidly from early music to contemporary, from opera to art song.

Tapestry Songbook IX performances are March 29 at 8PM and March 30 at 4PM& 8PM at the Ernest Balmer Studio, 9 Trinity Street, in the historical Distillery District.

Recent performances include her début at San Francisco Opera; singing Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Waldvogel (Siegfried) and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) with the Canadian Opera Company and both Belinda (Dido and Aeneas/Aeneas and Dido Purcell/Rolfe double bill) and Daphne (Apollo e Dafne, Handel) for Toronto Masque Theatre.

Sought after for her “exceptional talent” in performing modern works, Jacqueline created the role of Milica-Bride in the première of Ana Sokolovic’s opera Svaba-Wedding with Queen of Puddings Music Theatre, as well as subsequent Canadian and European tours and the American premiere of the work with Philadelphia Opera.
