Toronto: Ticket availability dates announced for “The Met: Live in HD” 2019/20 season

Cineplex Events is pleased to announce that tickets will go on sale for the 2019-20 season of The Met: Live in HD next Wednesday, July 17, 2019Launching in theatres across Canada on October 12, 2019 for the 14th consecutive year, opera-lovers will be able to experience 10 brilliant Live in HD transmissions starring some of the world’s leading artists from the Met’s stages at the Lincoln Centre in New York City.

This year’s award-winning series features five new productions, including the Met’s premiere of Philip Glass’ highly-anticipated Akhnaten; Alban Berg’s Wozzeck under the baton of music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and a new production of Der Fliegende Hollander from Canadian director François Girard. The season will also mark the Met debut of Canadian baritone Brett Polegato for his supporting role in the revival of Massenet’s celebrated Manon. First introduced in December 2006, the Met series now airs in more than seven countries on six continents and on over 2,200 screens, including 110 Cineplex and independent theatres in communities large and small across Canada.

Advance tickets to this popular series are available to SCENE members beginning Thursday, July 11, 2019, with tickets on sale to the public on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 9:30am ET. Guests can purchase their tickets at participating theatre box offices, www.cineplex.com or on the Cineplex app.

October 26, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on December 14, 2019 and January 13, 15 and 19, 2020.


Madama ButterflyPuccini – starring Hui He, Elizabeth DeShongand Plácido Domingo.

November 9, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on January 25, 27, 29 and February 9, 2020.


Akhnaten, Glass – the Met premiere production starring Dísella Lárusdóttir and J’Nai Bridges.

November 23, 2019 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on February 15, 17, 19 and 23, 2020.


The Magic Flute, Mozart – Julie Taymor’s perennial favourite, which returns to usher in the holiday season. 

Encores on December 7, 9, 11 and 15, 2019.


Wozzeck, Berg – a new production conducted by music directorYannick Nézet-Séguin and starring Elza van den Heever and Tamara Mumford.

Porgy and BessThe Gershwins – a brand new production making its Live in HD debut, directed by James Robinson and starring Eric Owens as Porgy and Angel Blue as Bess.

AgrippinaHandel – the Met premiere, first time in HD starring Brenda Rai and Joyce DiDonato.
February 29, 2020 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on April 18, 20, 22 and 26, 2020.


Der Fliegende Holländer, Wagner – directed by François Girard and starring Anja Kampe and Mihoko Fujimura with Sir Bryn Terfel in the role of Holländer.
March 14, 2020 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on May 30 and June 1, 3 and 7, 2020.


Tosca, Puccini – starring Anna Netrebko in the title role.  
April 11, 2020 at 12:55 p.m. ET, with encores on June 13, 15, 17 and 21, 2020.


Maria Stuarda, Donizetti – starring Diana Damrau in the title role alongside Jamie Barton as Elisabetta.

All live operas will be Saturday matinee performances, transmitted directly from the Met stage. Encore performances are scheduled throughout the season at select locations on Saturday afternoons and Monday evenings.
