Toronto: Marie Chouinard returns to Toronto with “Radical Vitality, Solos and Duets” February 5-8
Monday, January 13, 2020
Mesmerizing. Shocking. Notorious. Sensual. Original. Legendary choreographer Marie Chouinard, one of Canada’s most creative and provocative dancers and choreographers, delves into her company’s vast repertoire to present RADICAL VITALITY, SOLOS AND DUETS, February 5-8 at Toronto’s Bluma Appel Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.
A true cultural icon, Chouinard’s daring vision has influenced contemporary dance in Canada and around the world for over forty years. The bold and fearless work that is happening in contemporary dance right now would not be happening without her enormous influence.
An accomplished author, set and lighting designer, photographer and film director, Chouinard has received several awards and distinctions for her contribution to the arts, including Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement
Brilliant, raw and beautifully unsettling, RADICAL VITALITY, SOLOS AND DUETS is an eclectic anthology ofthree short original works combined with stand alone excerpts from historical pieces that Chouinard has reimagined. Interweaving tragedy and comedy, tenderness and cruelty, vulnerability and strength, the graceful and the strange, these works are united by Chouinard’s distinctive movement vocabulary. Like in all of her work, these dance miniatures expose the human figure in all its forms.
“TO Live is thrilled to continue the partnership with Canadian Stage bringing top international danceartists to Toronto and exploring excellence in arts," said Clyde Wagner, President and CEO, TO Live.
