Orangeville: Theatre Orangeville announces an online 2020/21 season

Thursday, November 5, 2020

Our theatre has been an absolute beehive of activity for the last few months as we move further down the road of online programming, a road designed to bridge, in the short term, our creative activities until such time as we can once again safely gather in your beloved theatre.

Theatre practitioners are nothing if not adaptable, especially when facing challenges, which is why all of us at Theatre Orangeville, be we actors, directors, writers, designers, technicians, administrators, staff or volunteers, decided quite some time ago to meet these uncertain times, these “creative opportunities” if you will, head-on.

To that end, we have been dedicating all of our energies towards creating even more of the imaginative and engaging world-class artistic content that you, our audience, have come to enjoy, expect and whole-heartedly support.

With our exciting new Theatre Orangeville Presents ... Online series, we continue our 26-year tradition of sharing with you great stories created by tremendous writers, coupled with the remarkable talents of gifted performers and theatre practitioners. We are striving to unite audiences virtually for the sake of art and culture, so that together we can all overcome these difficult times.

To say that arts and culture organizations around the world have been hit hard by the current state of the world would be an understatement as it has been reported that 40% of the professional theatres in Canada will either close forever, or will be so financially devastated by this pandemic, as to be radically altered or diminished for years to come.

By pivoting to online programming as a means of moving forward, albeit for the short term, we are doing all that we can to ensure that such a fate does not befall our theatre.
