Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Join Soulpepper Theatre Company online for a little JOY and INSPIRATION, this winter! Soulpepper is pleased to announce new digital community programming, including a live cast reunion with the company of A Christmas Carol, raising funds for a local food bank; 10 Minutes of Joy, a new five-part series for the whole family; and an Inspiration Hub for artists, arts workers, and audiences members to feed their soul and share what is inspiring them.

While we can’t gather for live performances we wanted to share moments of joy for families to experience together, and create a digital gathering spot for the community to be inspired,” said Fiona Suliman, Soulpepper’s Manager of Education.

Kicking off this year’s family programming is the brand-new series 10 Minutes of Joywhich premieres today and airs weekly through to Dec. 22, 2020. This series provides a moment for families to take a short break, have some fun, and learn a new skill. From creative crafting projects, an African dance tutorial, to songs and stories, each 10 Minutes of Joy episode is led by one of Toronto’s top artists, featuring Daren A. Herbert,  Gloria MokPulga Muchochoma, Lisa Nighswander, Fiona Sauder and Landon Doak. To watch the episodes weekly visit www.soulpepper.ca

Need to feed your soul? With a long winter ahead of us, Soulpepper is launching an Inspiration Hub, a digital place for the creative community to share what inspires them, or get a get a pick-me-up whenever they need it. Artists, audiences, and arts workers are invited to submit a piece of music, text, video, or images that respond to a creative prompt. To launch the site, we are inviting the community to share “What Song Gets You Up and Dancing Every Time?” Postings will be reviewed and uploaded regularly, creating a community resource for whenever you need it. To submit or get inspiration visit www.soulpepper.ca

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, adapted by Michael Shamata, and Soulpepper’s annual donation collection for local food banks, have long been staples of the Company’s holiday programming. With the theatres dark this year, Soulpepper is pleased to bring together the cast and crew of A Christmas Carol for a live reunion to share excerpts, memories and behind-the-scenes moments from their many seasons, as a way to once again support local charities. The cast reunion will be streamed live on Thursday, December 17 at 7:00PM on www.soulpepper.ca and donations will be collected in support of the Fred Victor Regent Park food programs. Prior to the event audiences are invited to download the award-winning Kobo Audiobook of A Christmas Carol that will transport listeners back to the theatre to enjoy Toronto’s favourite holiday tradition.

This community programming announcement joins Soulpepper’s previously released digital content in support of the company’s ongoing efforts to engage and connect our community during this challenging time. You are invited to visit www.soulpepper.ca to explore and enjoy episodes of: The Show That Changed My Life, Curtain Up Youth Workshops, The Training Room, and Fresh Ink, and much more.

Soulpepper has many exciting artistic partnerships in development and can’t wait to share details in early 2021.
