Stratford: Stratford Festival’s Alexis Gordon is featured guest in INNERchamber's holiday concert

Wednesday, December 2, 2020

INNERchamber musicians and guest vocalist Alexis Gordon will be streaming some holiday cheer live from Revival House this Sunday evening during Together, Safe & Warm, the chamber-music group’s first-ever virtual seasonal concert.

Featuring a set of holiday music arranged by cellist Ben Bolt-Martin that ranges from more modern tunes like Gordon Lightfoot’s Song for a Winter’s Night to Arcangelo Corelli’s 1714-penned Christmas Concerto, Sunday’s concert is sure to get those in attendance and those watching from home into the season’s spirit.

“We’ve never done a seasonal concert like this and we’re quite excited,” said Andrew Chung, INNERchamber artistic director and violinist. “For this particular concert, we’ve got six instrumentalists and we’ve got a special guest vocalist, Alexis Gordon.

“Alexis is pretty well known to Stratford audiences. She performed in Four Seasons at the Stratford Festival. I remember playing in a couple musicals that she was in. She was the lead in Carousel (2015) – that was her first role here as the lead, Julie Jordan – and I also remember her in Guys and Dolls (2017). She’s just a fantastic and versatile performer and singer.”

Alongside Chung on violin, Bolt-Martin on cello, Derek Conrad on horn, Jody Davenport on viola, Liesel Deppe on flute and Julia Seager-Scott on harp, Gordon’s versatile vocal talents will suit the concert’s festive theme perfectly, whether she’s singing Leslie Arden’s Nothing Can Prepare You from The House of Martin Guerre, Gustav Holst’s In the Bleak Midwinter or Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, Chung said.

While tickets have sold out for the COVID-restricted in-person audience at Revival House, Chung said INNERchamber and its partners have ensured audience members at home can have almost the same experience by purchasing a takeout meal from Revival House with their ticket before end of day Friday. Otherwise, those who just want to tune in for the concert can purchase a ticket right up until showtime at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6.

“Michael Fisher of Stream Studio is our videographer. He lives in Stratford here, and I think it’s safe to say he’s an industry leader in terms of what he’s providing and the level of video,” Chung said. “We had great, great feedback from our first livestreamed concert (in October) and I’m super happy with the results.”

Prior to the show, audience members at home can also watch a pre-recorded video featuring conversations between Chung, Gordon and Fisher about the concert and their music on INNERchamber’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com.
