Toronto: Le Théâtre français de Toronto cancels the remainder of its 2019/20 season

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Coming together under one roof, gathering an audience to tell a story, sharing ideas and opinions! Since its creation in 1967, Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) has never stopped believing in its mission: to bring people together. At this time however, it has become clear this imperative does not align with the well-being and health of society.

In light of the pandemic and in line with government directives, TfT is obliged to cancel the rest of its 2019/2020 season.

These are the shows and activities that will be affected by this cancellation:

SHOWS:

  • NOMBRE (NUMBER)
  • MOTS SECRETS (SECRET WORDS)
  • LE CLUB DES ÉPHÉMÈRES (THE SHADFLY CLUB)
  • LA PLUS GROSSE POUTINE AU MONDE (THE BIGGEST POUTINE IN THE WORLD)
  • WEEFESTIVAL (Shows in French presented in cooperation with the festival)

ACTIVITIES

  • ANNUAL FUNDRAISING EVENT
  • PLAYWRITING WORKSHOPS FOR TORONTO PLAYWRIGHTS AT DJARAM’ART THEATRE, SENEGAL
  • THEATRE PROGRAMMING AT THE CENTRE D’ACCUEIL HÉRITAGE
  • DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES AT SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES (Cultural mediation)

The TfT team is exploring the feasibility of integrating elements of this programming into the upcoming 2020-2021 season. We will keep you posted.

TICKET POLICY

The cancellation of these activities has a major impact on our ability to support our artists for the current season and we need your help. In the spirit of the #billetsolidaire campaign, if your financial situation allows, consider donating the value of your ticket (s) to the theatre. You will receive an official tax receipt.

If you are a ticket holder, please let us know your choice by email at sveilleux@theatrefrancais.com using the subject DONATION or REFUND in your message. If you are unable to communicate with us by email, please leave a message on the box office voicemail at 416-534-6604. As the TfT team is now working remotely, we will call you back as soon as possible.

COMING EVENTS

The TfT team is very concerned by the crisis which has overwhelmed us all and wishes to express its solidarity with all those affected by COVID-19. Although TfT has been forced to cancel its regular programming, the company will soon be offering cultural activities accessible to all through its social networks.

The wonderful moments we have shared with you to date are now helping us to cope with the difficult situation we face together. We are acutely aware of its impact on our artists, our staff, the artistic organizations with which we work and, of course, our audience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this closure, but the health and well-being of all is our top priority.

One day soon, theatres will be full again and the stage will come back to life. We are already looking forward to welcoming you back and introducing you to our ever more daring creations and productions.
