Stratford: The Stratford Festival celebrates its first season with “The Stratford Adventure” on May 25

Sunday, May 24, 2020

Tomorrow, Monday, May 25, would have been the gala opening night of our 2020 season. To mark the occasion, we will hold a special online celebration that includes a showing of the 1954 Oscar-nominated short documentary The Stratford Adventure.

Our Monday evening will begin at 8 p.m. with remarks from Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino. Then, immediately following the film, Geraint Wyn Davies will chat with Dawn Greenhalgh, who appears in The Stratford Adventure as a member of our original acting company.

The Stratford Adventure, produced in 1954 by the National Film Board of Canada, looks back at the Stratford Festival’s debut the previous year. With appearances by founder Tom Patterson and other Festival pioneers, this treasured documentary takes viewers on a rich historical ride, retracing the journey that led to that stunning opening night in 1953, when Alec Guinness, as Richard III, inaugurated our first “glorious summer.”
