The Tarragon Theatre will present an online reading of David Young’s Inexpressible Island from May 11 to May 13.
INEXPRESSIBLE ISLAND
A play by David Young
Directed by Richard Rose
Sound design by Verne Good
Stage Directions by Briony Glassco
In 1912 three Royal Navy officers and three ordinary seamen were stranded in Antarctica with no winter clothing or food. They dug a snow cave. They killed penguins and seals and stacked them up like cord wood.
And they survived, against impossible odds, for five months in the pitch black, howling hurricane that is an Antarctic winter.
This play, based on these actual events, is an imagining of what actually happened inside that ice cave.
It is a survival saga that will help us survive our current predicament.
The reading features some of the original cast from the premiere in 1997.
