Toronto: The Guild Theatre Festival cancels its 2020 season

Friday, May 1, 2020

We know many of you have questions about Guild Festival Theatre’s 2020 season, especially after so many other theatres have canceled their programs. We are also dealing with the disruption, anxiety, and uncertainty caused by this pandemic, yet we remain hopeful that we will be able to bring the Greek Theatre to life this summer.

We would love to bring you our season as planned, but that is no longer entirely in our control. The City of Toronto has cancelled park permits until June 30th and while the re-opening plan announced by the province is encouraging, it doesn't provide specific information on when we'll be able to begin performances.

The safety of our audience and artists is of the utmost importance to us and we will keep looking to our government partners for guidance on how to proceed. We still have time before we need to make our decision about this summer and we'll be sure to let you know when we have more information.

As we sit isolated in our houses stuck to our screens, we’re more aware than ever of how important a role the theatre plays in our lives. There’s a certain magic that happens when we’re all in the same space experiencing the same story, sharing a collective gasp or laugh and feeling our hearts beating together. And even if our plans for this summer need to change, we know that someday soon we’ll gather again at the Greek Theatre to share great stories with our wonderful audience.
