Toronto: Crow’s Theatre cancels its entire 2020/21 season

Friday, August 7, 2020

The staff, board and leadership of Crow’s Theatre wish to extend our heartfelt thanks for the generosity of spirit and patience shown to us by our audiences and supporters since the beginning of the pandemic. We would like to provide a personal update on plans for our previously announced season.

In March, when faced with the reality of social isolation and limitations on public gatherings, we began working on a path forward for the 2020/21 season. While our deliberations about the future of our 2020/2021 season have been shaped by a multitude of variables, the safety and well-being of our audiences, community, staff and artists has been our priority.

crowIn an open and transparent dialogue with our producing partners and stakeholders, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the previously announced 2020/2021 Crow’s Theatre season and cancel all currently scheduled performances.

We are heartbroken for the productions that will be forfeited, and for the artists, and arts workers who have lost work as well as the opportunity to connect and share their passion with the extraordinary audiences at Streetcar Crowsnest, the Winter Garden Theatre, and with our partners across the country.

Crow’s will be monitoring pandemic developments closely, reviewing conditions for public gathering on a quarterly basis, and planning accordingly. Rest assured, we will remain poised to resume live performances at Streetcar Crowsnest as soon as conditions are right for us all.

The cancelled productions are: Birds of a Kind (Crows Theatre / Stratford Festival), Teenage Dick (Crows Theatre / Arts Club Theatre Company), Dance Nation (Crows Theatre / Arts Club Theatre Company), Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 (Crows Theatre / The Musical Stage Company), I, Claudia (Crows Theatre), Merrily We Roll Along (YES Theatre in association with Crows Theatre), Macbeth Muet (La Fille du Laitier's Production presented by Crows Theatre), and Cliff Cardinals CBC Special (An Imaginary Force & VideoCabaret Production presented by Crows Theatre). Our Crow’s Kids productions and programming, including the WeeFestival’s Old Man and the River, are also cancelled.

In the coming days, well be reaching out to our subscribers and patrons to refund their cancelled performances. In early September we will be making an announcement detailing plans for reimagined 2020 fall activities, alongside additional measures we will be taking to support our artistic community.

For now, we offer our sincere thanks for your patience, support and understanding, and apologize that we are unable to deliver these extraordinary productions to you, our loyal audiences this season. Your continued support is the life blood of Crow’s and we could not be more appreciative and grateful.

From Chris Abraham, Sherrie Johnson, and the entire team at Crow’s Theatre.
