Cambridge: Vera Causa Opera postpones its film of “The Gondoliers” to March 2022

Friday, January 15, 2021

In light of this week’s stay-at-home order and in the interest of participant well-being, we will be postponing our film adaptation of The Gondoliers to next winter.

Our staff and participants have been hard at work over the past few months preparing for this production by rehearsing lines and music, recording at home or recording individually in-person with COVID-19 precautions in place, and even working on story boards for filming.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made on this production despite the pandemic. What is most important to us is our participants’ and staff’s well-being, and we recognize the vulnerability of our community during and directly after this lockdown.

But we’re also here with good news – the exciting announcement of what we’ll be presenting to you next winter:

Tune in March 2022 to the online premiere of

The Sugarmakers: A Movie!

A Canadian adaptation of The Gondoliers by Gilbert & Sullivan

We’re eager to bring you a unique and local adaptation of this opera. We’ll be filming at different farms and venues in the Waterloo Region in February 2022. Our hope is that our community will be stronger and healthier, and that we will safely produce a film that does justice to our cast and crew!

We’ll continue to bring you opera in the coming months, including our production of Orpheus in the Underworld in June 2021. Plus we’ve got some super top-secret ideas that we can't wait to share with you.
