Port Perry: Theatre on the Ridge secures $50K grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation
Tuesday, October 19, 2021
Theatre on the Ridge has received nearly $50,000 through an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant that will help hire new staff and lead to other improvements.
The $49,900 grant will allow Theatre on the Ridge, Durham Region’s only not-for-profit professional theatre company, to continue delivering experiences and programs through new staff hires, an upgraded website and will offset rental expenses.
The company will also be able to continue adapting to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by purchasing health and safety and digital equipment.
“With the Community Building Fund grant generously received from (Ontario Trillium Foundation), Theatre on the Ridge will be able to continue to produce high quality theatre and theatre programs for the residents and visitors of Durham Region while exploring new and innovative ways to present theatre to the world. This will include employment opportunities along with reinvestment of these dollars within Durham Region to help to strengthen our community,” said Theatre on the Ridge board president Trevor Lundy in a statement.
Added artistic director Carey Nicholson: “After the ongoing challenges of presenting live theatre during the pandemic, and adapting and pivoting our way through the last 18 months, this is very welcome news and we are incredibly grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support and for their recognition of the importance of the work we do and our role in the community.”
