Toronto: Theatre Passe Muraille announces its season for 2022

Monday, November 29, 2021

Theatre Passe Muraille presents shows in-person, the brand new #BeyondTO Festival, a digital production, and much more.

This season, Theatre Passe Muraille is thrilled to be able to offer provocative, engaging works from Toronto and beyond.

Each production in this 21.22 season continues to reflect on the many lessons learned in the pandemic, asking questions, breaking down walls and pushing boundaries. Iphigenia and the Furies (On Taurian Land), Our Place, and our digital production Toka all examine their place in the world, and contemplate how to break cycles of violence and oppression.

In the spring, our new presentation festival, #BeyondTO will welcome three works from outside of Toronto, sharing perspectives rarely seen on stages. Scored In Silence (UK) , Bâtardes (Montreal) and Crippled (St. John’s) share intimate stories from the breadth of the human experience, from Hiroshima, to Mt. Everest, to a dock in Newfoundland. Lastly, we will welcome Luminato Festival Toronto to the theatre, with The Cave, whose music and poetry speak to the climate crisis of our times.

“We are excited to come back together and are inviting audiences back at 50% of our house capacity. Anyone entering our building will follow our vaccine protocols and health and safety guidelines. As well, our artistic staff and creative teams will undergo rigorous testing. Whether it’s in-person or through our digital programming, we want you to feel welcome.”

– Indrit Kasapi | Interim Managing Director, TPM

These past two years have not only been about the pandemic; it was also about fighting injustices, confronting ableism, and demanding change. Our works this season dare us to move forward with consideration and compassion, and to build better futures for everyone. This season is our step forward, and we invite you to join us.

Our Community Initiatives:

Community engagement is at the heart of how TPM sees its impact beyond the walls. Our community programming includes both in-person and virtual events, most of which are available for free.

The virtual TPM Book Club will return in January 2022 with more lively literary discussions inspired by our productions this season. The Prelude continues to offer a series of virtual, free, moderated conversations or community events that provide a deeper look into the themes of each of our productions. We are also offering Community Days outside, to provide a low-intensive way for our community to engage with TPM staff and each other. We will continue with our popular Black Out Nights for select performances which are reserved exclusively for Black audiences. Lastly, we are also excited to partner with Made in Exile, centering Tibetan playwrights and performers in a series of audio-dramas. Episodes will stream from our website, December 1!

Tickets:

Tickets are on sale now for Iphigenia and the Furies (on Taurian Land), Our Place, and Toka. This season we will continue with our Pay What You Can Afford (PWYCA) model. The ticket prices this season are: $5, $25, and $50. All tickets are the same general admission tickets.

More about PWYCA: In order to remove barriers in our pricing, we are offering three price points so that a wide range of audiences are able to attend our 21.22 Season. We encourage audiences to make their own choices about what they can afford in order to experience theatre. Those purchasing at the $50 price point will do so with the understanding that their ticket price is helping to subsidize the $5 ticket price, and in doing so, making theatre more accessible for others.

COVID-19 Protocols:

Theatre Passe Muraille has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all persons entering the building. Safety measures and health protocols, including masks, social distancing, and sanitation measures, are fully in effect and updated as precautions for COVID-19 evolve and change. Please see our website or contact us for details.

Accessibility:

TPM continues our commitment to accessibility by offering accessibility features such as audio descriptions, translations, captions, ASL Interpretation and relaxed performances. This information can be found on each of the show pages. To learn more about our accessibility initiatives, visit our website. The visual story of our theatre is also available here.
