Toronto: Tickets for “Come From Away” in Toronto on sale starting November 10

Tuesday, November 2, 2021

After illuminating an otherwise dark and empty space for 643 days, the 114-year-old ghost light on the stage of Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre will finally be turned off and taken back into its storage place. This age-old ritual will mark the reopening of both the Royal Alexandra and performances of Canada’s most successful musical of all time, Come From Away.

Performances of Come From Away will resume on December 15. Tickets will go on sale on November 10 at www.mirvish.com or by phone at 1-800-461-3333.

“It’s a moment we’ve long been waiting for,” said David Mirvish. “We’ve never experienced a time such as this before, and it brought great uncertaintcome y. Many of us feared that activities such as theatre performances, which are as much about community as they are about sharing stories, could very well have been lost to us forever.

"It is both with a heavy heart for all the suffering this pandemic has caused and a sense of immense hope for the future that we welcome back artists, technicians, staff and audiences to celebrate with us the reopening of the Royal Alexandra.

“It is fitting that the show that will reopen the theatre after such a tumultuous and tragic time is Come From Away. Not only will this Canadian story about overcoming a catastrophic event by coming together as a community offer a communal cathartic experience after all these dark months, but it will do so with exuberance, kindness, understanding and acceptance — something it had done for almost three years before its run was abruptly ended on March 13, 2020.

"In my mind, Come From Away is the perfect show to mark the beginning of the end of this pandemic.

“We welcome everyone back with utmost respect and seriousness in our responsibility to keep everyone in the theatre safe and comfortable."

Come From Away will return with the same brilliant ensemble cast that was on stage in March 2020: Saccha Dennis, Steffi DiDomenicantonio, Barbara Fulton, Lisa Horner, James Kall, Jeff Madden, George Masswohl, Ali Momen, Cory O’Brien, Kristen Peace, Eliza-Jane Scott, Clint Butler, Kate Etienne, Amir Haidar, Lori Nancy Kalamanski, David Silvestri and Cailin Stadnyk. The only exception to this is a new cast member, Kyle Brown, who was in rehearsal at the time to replace Kevin Vidal, who was to leave the cast and move to Vancouver a month later. Kyle will finally get his chance to perform in the roles he was destined to play.

The Come From Away band will also be back. They are Tristan Avakian, Richard Evans, Bob Foster, Greg Hawco, Sean Kilbride, Jonathan Maharaj, Spencer Murray and Kim Ratcliffe

Come From Away features a book, music and lyrics by Olivier, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winners and Grammy and two-time Tony Award nominees Irene Sankoff & David Hein, direction by Tony Award winner and Outer Critics Circle Award winner Christopher Ashley, musical staging by Olivier Award winner and two-time Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine, and music supervision by Olivier Award winner and Grammy Award nominee Ian Eisendrath.

COME FROM AWAY tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all.

The Grammy Award-nominated original Broadway cast recording of COME FROM AWAY is available digitally and in stores everywhere. Grammy Award winner David Lai, and Grammy Award nominees Ian Eisendrath, August Eriksmoen, Irene Sankoff and David Hein served as album producers.
