Reading Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, his opening sentence seems particularly prescient: 

“it was the best of times, it was the worst of times”

as does his penultimate sentence:

“it was the spring of hope”
 

The COVID-19 pandemic has at times left us reeling but never bereft of hope or creative possibilities. Due to the most recent Toronto lockdown, Opera Atelier’s production of Handel’s The Resurrection cannot premiere on Thursday April 1, 2021 as we have planned.

Nevertheless, we have devised a solution that will allow us to release our beautiful production in two stages:

1. On Saturday April 3, 2021 at 7:00PM ET Opera Atelier will release a 30-minute documentary short titled The Making of The Resurrection. This film will take you behind the scenes as we navigate through the protocols and challenges of filming and recording while creating a safe environment for our artists and technicians.

We believe you will be fascinated to see our singers, Artists of Atelier Ballet, and Tafelmusik being interviewed, and working together to create the materials for our production. 

The Making of The Resurrection will be available for free 
on Opera Atelier’s website.

2. On Thursday May 27, 2021 at 7:00PM ET we will release the completed version of Handel’s The Resurrection in all its glory - filmed in Koerner Hall with the sets, costumes, props, choreography and staging we have been preparing for almost two years.

The link and passcode to view Handel’s The Resurrection will be sent at 6:30PM ET on the evening of the premiere in an email from The Royal Conservatory Box Office. You will have access to Handel's The Resurrection for up to one week following the premiere on May 27th.

Both offerings will feature the work of Canadian Filmmaker, Marcel Canzona.
