Ottawa: Odyssey Theatre cancels its 2021 Theatre Under the Stars but has many online projects coming

Friday, May 28, 2021

We are sorry to have to let you know, there will be no Theatre Under the Stars in Strathcona Park this summer.

We cannot risk the health of our audience, artists, volunteers, students and staff.   We have come a long way together, and while the end is in sight, it is critical we follow Ontario’s staged re-opening plan and wait before gathering for live performances.

We have been hard at work on many exciting new projects and are thrilled by what we have in store for you:  podcasts, live-streaming, readings, workshops and youth apprenticeships – all online of course.

In October, our ground-breaking fictional podcast series takes to the Internet. This is going to be special. Five award-winning writers are creating bewitching folk tales set in a modern world.  Imagine witches in urban ravines, ogres in the Maritimes or enchanted bath tubs.  Wonderful casts, together with powerful music and sound effects, will help you cross over to the otherworld.

Wondering what to do with your young budding artist this summer?  Our mask and puppet workshops for 8-12 year olds return in July!  And in August, youth 14-19 can join our Apprenticeship program to learn acting, improv and Commedia from professional artists while meeting new friends.

Also in the pipeline is our live-streamed series on Commedia dell’Arte.  Explore the comic genius and zaniness of the masked theatre form that inspires our work, with performances, interviews, and artist discussions.

Check in on our website regularly for the latest details on events to come at www.odysseytheatre.ca. Or, to stay current, follow us on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

Thank you to all our donors, foundations, granting agencies, corporate partners, volunteers and all you who continue to help us through these tough times.  Your support inspires us and helps keep our artists working.  If you are able to make a donation, please click here.  We sincerely thank you.

We are counting the days until we see you under the stars in Strathcona Park next summer.  In the meantime join us online to keep your creative juices flowing.  Stay safe and well.

Our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters who are standing strong behind the arts during this difficult time.  Your unwavering support is crucial to helping us launch this totally new online program and will also help us do what we can to support artists in our community who work gig to gig to stay afloat.
