Toronto: Tapestry Opera to present highlights from “Rocking Horse Winner” in High Park
Friday, July 2, 2021
Tapestry Opera are bringing songs from their much-loved, multi-award winning opera Rocking Horse Winner to life this summer in a special open-air concert performed at Canadian Stage’s High Park Amphitheatre.
Tapestry Opera’s Artistic & General Director Michael Hidetoshi Mori said:“Opera and theatre lovers in Toronto will be delighted to see highlights from composer Gareth Williams and librettist Anna Chatterton’s Rocking Horse Winner live in concert, accompanied by an enchanting assortment of opera and musical theatre highlights.”
Rocking Horse Winner, winner of the 2016 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production, was one of many Toronto productions cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Star soprano Lucia Cesaroni, COC Ensemble Studio Competition winner Midori Marsh and tenor Asitha Tennekoon will unite to dazzle from the open-air stage, having only performed together once before to record the Rocking Horse Winner album under strict COVID protocols in Spring 2020. They will be joined on stage by pianists Stéphane Mayer and Trevor Chartrand.
The celebratory concert, titled Box Concerts and Rocking Horse Winner with special guests, also features highlights from contemporary and classical opera and musical theatre repertoire, plus select moments from Tapestry’s 2021 Box Concerts show.
Box Concerts, which is otherwise only available to book to care homes, hospitals, and private residences, will also have a limited run of 7 Pay-What-You-Can public performances as part of Canadian Stage’s Dream in High Parkprogram on July 10, 11, 17 & 18.
