Toronto: The first broadcast of programsound.fm, internet radio for storytellers, is July 25
Friday, July 9, 2021
on july 25 2021 listeners around the world can tune into a free, one-day only event - a full day pilot broadcast of programsound.fm: a new internet radio station dedicated to storytellers, hosted by bahia watson.
instead of an analog frequency dial, the stream of sound comes through an audio player on a website and, in our case, the sounds you hear are filled with stories of all kinds, from all across turtle island.
from beneath the prairie skies of treaty one territory to the unceded coast salish lands on the west to the unceded mi’kmaq lands to the east and all the way into inuit territory in the north, this is an opportunity to tune into a constellation of stories that beam through the void to let us know we are not alone.
after a national open call for submissions produced an overwhelming response we have chosen 25 diverse artists with unique voices to feature during our broadcast day. when you tune in you might hear: stand-up comedy from saskatchewan, and visual art stepping off the canvas from nunavut. you might hear bed-time stories from toronto, waterways from vancouver, or a call-in show from newmarket asking you to choose your own adventure.
this project has been created with a team of theatre powerhouses: yolanda bonnell, jasmine chen, marie farsi, brad hodder, griffin mcinnes, mitchell cushman and lucy coren. it has been generously supported by the canada council for the arts’ digital strategies fund and developed in partnership with outside the march theatre company (“endlessly inventive” - The Globe and Mail, June 2021), a leading voice in immersive experiences. our sound designer is canadian musician and composer TiKA. we have also received sponsorship from Soulpepper Theatre, Volcano Theatre, Crow’s Theatre and Theatre ARTaud.
programsound.fm asks its listeners to trust us, to tune in and take the ride of discovery with us, wherever the wavelength takes them.
