Toronto: Confluence Concerts holds an online symposium about Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”

Confluence Concerts is pleased to announce this two-day symposium celebrating the premiere of Teiya Kasahara’s (笠原貞野) (they/them) new film The Butterfly Project: The Ballad of Chō-Chō San and the Canadian Opera Company’s 2022 online concert presentation of Madama Butterfly, and calls attention to the problematic nature of this opera in today’s environment of growing cultural awareness.
All events are presented without charge on Confluence Concert's YouTube channel. Advance registration is required for the artist talk back on February 11, and the panel discussions on February 12.

Three panel discussions with artists, directors, creators and academics from Canada and the US exploring Puccini's beautiful but troublesome work.
The symposium is co-presented by Confluence Concerts, Amplified Opera, the Canadian Opera Company, the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, and the Humanities Initiative at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.
