Toronto: The entire Board of Directors of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre steps down

Thursday, January 20, 2022

Our Board of Directors has undergone substantial change over the past two weeks. Following the collective resignation of the board’s three BIPOC directors on January 12, and after discussion with Buddies staff, the remainder of the board has decided to step down. Two members will stay on temporarily in an administrative role during this transition period.

At a time where organizations – industry-wide – are engaging in deep conversations around leadership and board governance, this change provides an opportunity for us to intentionally rethink these structures and explore researched and new ways to build more collaborative and inclusive environments, enacting meaningful and long-lasting change. We will begin to rebuild our board, working with staff and consultants with extensive industry knowledge: prioritizing policies, structure, and culture that are informed by equitable, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.

In addition to our public-facing season programming, our staff continue to lead organizational change in conversation with each other and the broader communities. We will share an update in the coming weeks to announce work with our consultants and our plans for board recruitment.
