Toronto: The Théâtre français de Toronto presents “Le Club des éphémères” March 30-April 9

Wednesday, March 2, 2022

From March 30 to April 9, 2022, Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) is pleased to present the long-awaited dramedy LE CLUB DES ÉPHÉMÈRES by Alain Doom, co-produced with Théâtre du Nouvel Ontario (TNO).

The play, directed by Dillon Orr, was scheduled to open at the Berkeley Street Theatre in April 2020 but was cancelled when COVID-19 plunged the world into a global health crisis. It is therefore with pride and excitement that TfT presents this revival to Toronto audiences almost two years to the day after its cancellation.

WHEN A FILMMAKER PRODUCING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT SHADFLIES UNEXPECTEDLY APPEARS IN THEIR RETIREMENT HOME, the lives of five elderly women are turned upside down. The passion they feel for these ephemeral insects that emerge each spring from the lake is only equaled by their obsession with the Dionne quintuplets.

Under the spotlight, the unexpected bond uniting these five women also comes to light. Terrible stories they had never thought to reveal resurface as they seize the moment and confess secrets for the first and last time in their lives.

Up and coming Franco-Ontarian director Dillon Orr presents Alain Doom’s most recent play, written during his time as Théâtre français de Toronto’s “playwright in residence”. An incisive feminist comedy evoking the ephemeral nature of our lives with humour and tenderness.
