Prescott: The St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival announces its 2022 season

Saturday, April 23, 2022

Today is Shakespeare's birthday, and we're SO proud to announce we'll be returning in full frolicking force this summer with FOUR shows celebrating OUR 20th ANNIVERSARY. This year will be a theatrical feast for our first full season after two dark years.

For the first time, each show has its own stand-alone time slot running nightly and not in our usual rep season.

Shakespeare's most perfect comedy TWELFTH NIGHT launches our return to the waterfront Kinsmen Amphitheatre stage this July.

Twelfth Night opens Saturday, July 9th and runs to July 23rd and is directed by our artistic director Richard Sheridan Willis.

Our next show is Patrick Barlow's wildly successful adaptation of John Buchan's THE 39 STEPS. This fast-paced comedic adventure running from July 30th until August 13th, will be directed by returning festival favourite Zach Counsil.

We are delighted to welcome our good friends, Ottawa's A Company of Fools to the Festival with a one-night presentation of THE TEMPEST on July 26th. This is very fitting given the Festival's first-ever production was this Shakespearean gem.

For the season's final play, we welcome back Guild Festival TheatreTheatre, who delighted us last summer with their beautiful production of Salt-Water Moon. This year GFT presents THE RED PRIEST, a bittersweet love story filled with music, and written by Governor General Award-nominated playwright Mieko Ouchi. It opens on August 17th with a four-day run to August 20th.

We are thrilled that our former artistic director Ian Farthing is returning to our acting company. He will be joined by the ever-popular Quincy Armorerr, Alix Sideris and Melissa Morris. Ian will play Duke Orsino and Sir Andrew Aguecheek; Quincy is Malvolio and Antonio; Melissa plays Feste, Alix plays Olivia and Maria, KELLY J SEO plays Viola and Sebastian, and DOUG MACNAUGHTON plays Sir Toby Belch. The amazing Rosemary Doyle is our set and costume designer.

Evening shows start at 7 p.m., and Saturday matinees are at 1 p.m.
