Toronto: Toronto Operetta Theatre presents the world premiere of “A Northern Lights Dream” May 5-7

Wednesday, April 20, 2022

The northern lights, the village of Shakespeare and a mischievous sprite conspire in a new musical bringing love, laughter, and enlightenment. At last, after two COVID postponements, TOT presents the World Premiere of Michael Rose’s musical – A Northern Lights Dream – on May 5, 6, and 7, 2022. “After a hiatus of 22 months”, says TOT’s Silva-Marin, “we are so excited to be on stage again, with wonderful music, comedy and the joy of theatre shared with friends and family.”

A brand new work is always cause for celebration and Rose’s creation is eagerly anticipated. He was inspired by the Bard of Avon’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and sets his musical in the village of Shakespeare, Ontario, where life takes curious turns for a cast of unique characters, not least of which is a Canadianized Puck, called Robin. Small town gossips, secrets, fantasies, and pranksters combine to lead us to a better understanding of ourselves and our neighbours.

A Northern Lights Dream will be led by debuting conductor Kate Carver and a sterling cast has been assembled. Christina Haldane is Helen, Lauren Pearl is Robin, Gregory Finney is Taylor, Ian Backstrom is Nick and Karen Bojti is Mrs. Duke. The Stage Manager is Myra Malley and Silva-Marin directs.
