Toronto: Toronto Operetta Theatre presents “A Waltz Dream” by Oscar Straus June 17-19

Tuesday, May 31, 2022

TOT’s General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin announces the Canadian Premiere of Oscar Straus’ A Waltz Dream at the St. Lawrence Centre on June 17, 18, 19 (mat.), 2022. “We are thrilled to be back on stage after two years away from live theatre”, says Silva-Marin. “Our cast is itching to see you once again to share the joys of operetta in person.” The cast for A Waltz Dream, Oscar Straus’ greatest success, features the debut of Andrea Nuñez, and Scott Rumble and the return of TOT favourites Elizabeth Beeler, Keith Klassen and Gregory Finney. The orchestra and cast will be conducted by Derek Bate with Silva-Marin as Stage Director.

The work premiered in 1907 at the Carltheater in Vienna and even the great Lehar was envious of its signature tune – A Waltz Dream - which came to rival his own most famous waltz in popularity. The delightfully named fictional duchy of Rurislavenstein is the setting for a tale of romantic princesses, courtiers, enlisted soldiers and flirtations backed up by enchanting melodies.

TOT will be following all health protocols and guidelines to safeguard the public and its artists. The opening performance on June 17th is at 50% capacity to allay fears of distancing concerns. The performances on June 18th and 19th are at full capacity. Masking is encouraged during all TOT performances.

Best of all, TOT will keep ticket prices unchanged at pre-pandemic levels!
