Blyth: The Blyth Festival announces the cast for “The Drawer Boy”

You have enjoyed shows like Team on The Hill, Pigeon King, The Farm Show, Beyond the Farm Show, Wing Night at the Boot, Deer Johnny Dear, or visited our Harvest Stage last summer. We think you will love The Drawer Boy, and boy, what a cast!

Commissioned by Blyth in 1998, written by Michael Healey, inspired by The Farm Show.

The Drawer Boy is a story about two unsuspecting farmers in the early 1970s who get a knock on their door. An actor from the big city is researching a play about farming in Huron County. They reluctantly let him in.

Hilarity and a whole lot of heart ensue.

The Drawer Boy has received international renown as one of the best Canadian plays ever written, and it now is being directed by original cast member (Miles) and Festival artistic director Gil Garratt.

Jonathan Goad plays Morgan

Jonathan is thrilled to make his Blyth debut, a company he has long admired, in this brilliant play whose inspiration, writer, and original cast are nothing short of creative heroes to him. To the power of story!

Randy Hughson plays Angus

Blyth Credits: Scrooge (A Huron County Christmas Carol), Stompin’ Tom (Stompin Tom). Many roles over seven season including directing Power and Gloria and Heat Wave.

12 seasons at the Stratford Festival. Randy has played leading roles across Canada. He has performed in Mexico and the United States including many shows at the Tarragon, Canadian Stage, Factory Theatre, Soulpepper, Theatre Passe Muraille, Necessary Angel and Crows Theatre in Toronto. He has been nominated for eight Dora awards, three Vancouver Jessie Awards, three Edmonton Sterling awards, one Calgary Betty Mitchell award, one Gemini and two Broadway World awards and was awarded one of each.

Cameron Laurie plays Miles

Cameron is a native of Huron County and excited to return to Blyth, the place where he fell in love with theatre. He is a founding member of the Howland Company, an award-winning theatre company based out of Toronto. Past credits include: Casimir & Caroline, Punk Rock (Howland Company), Stag & Doe (Bluewater Summer Playhouse), The Taming of the Shrew (Rose Theatre), Narcisse (St. Josephs’s Historical Society. Cameron received a Dora award for Best Ensemble for Casimir & Caroline.
