Based on the true story of the chart-topping Cornish singing sensations and their hit 2019 movie, Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical is a feel-good voyage about friendship, community and music that will give any landlubber a mighty pair of sea legs.

When a group of Cornish fishermen came together to sing the traditional working songs they’d sung for generations, nobody, least of all the fishermen, expected the story to end on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. They are spotted by a “fish-out-of-water” music manager on a trip from London, who must learn that there is more to life than selling your “sole” for fifteen minutes of fame.

So, climb aboard, set sail and feel the salty sea air rush through your hair with this brand new musical.

Winner of eight 2019 Tony® Awards including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, this acclaimed new show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today... and always.

Indecent

BY PAULA VOGEL

DIRECTED BY JOEL GREENBERG

DAVID MIRVISH PRESENTS THE STUDIO 180 THEATRE PRODUCTION

TORONTO PREMIERE

OCTOBER – NOVEMBER, 2023

CAA THEATRE

In 1923, after celebrated European productions, the Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s drama God of Vengeance set the stage for an explosive moment in theatrical history. The evocative work of Jewish culture was praised and criticized for taboo themes of censorship, immigration, and anti-Semitism. Inspired by these true events and the controversy, Pulitzer Prize-winner Paula Vogel tells the behind-the-scenes story of the courageous artists who risked their careers and lives to perform a work deemed “indecent.”

A play filled with music and dance, Indecent combines the high entertainment of theatre with the heartbreak of the loss of art and culture for an entire people. An ensemble of actors and musicians portray more than 40 roles in this riveting and richly theatrical backstage drama. This enchanting Tony Award®-winning play is a testament to the transformative power of theatre that is more timely than ever.

The cast of Indecent includes Matt Baram, Dmitry Chepovetsky, Jake Epstein, Jessica Greenberg, Tracy Michailidis, Dov Mickelson, Sarah Orenstein, Emilyn Stam, and John David Williams.

This production of Indecent marks the 20th anniversary season of Studio 180.

Things I Know to be True

BY ANDREW BOVELL

DIRECTED BY PHILIP RICCIO

A CO-PRODUCTION WITH THE COMPANY THEATRE

CANADIAN PREMIERE

JANUARY – FEBRUARY, 2023

CAA THEATRE

David Mirvish and The Company Theatre, one of Toronto’s most acclaimed independent theatre companies, present the Canadian premiere of Andrew Bovell’s Things I Know to be True.

A poignant family drama with universal resonance, Things I Know to be True is the story of a year in the life of the Price family. Bob (Tom McCamus), recently let go from his job at a car factory, and Fran (Seana McKenna), a registered nurse, have raised their four children — Pip, Mia, Ben and Rosie — the best they could.

Now in their 60s, their children grown, they should be slowing down and taking time to smell the roses and enjoy a job well done. But a parent’s job is never finished, and as the seasons change, Bob and Fran find themselves guiding and supporting their children as they each face life-altering changes that shake the foundation of the once stable family home.

With insight and humanity, Bovell has tapped into the poetry, beauty, and tragedy of everyday life to create a deeply moving play that will resonate with anyone who has ever been part of a family.

Andrew Bovell is one of Australia’s most acclaimed playwrights. His plays include Speaking in Tongues and When the Rain Stops Falling.

Founded in 2005, The Company Theatre has produced some of Toronto’s most memorable productions over the last fifteen years, including the Canadian premieres of Bruce Norris’s Domesticated, Annie Baker’s John, and most recently the multiple Dora Award-winning production of Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem, starring Kim Coates.

As You Like It, or The Land Acknowledgement

WRITTEN BY AND STARRING CLIFF CARDINAL

DAVID MIRVISH PRESENTS THE CROW’S THEATRE PRODUCTION

MARCH – APRIL, 2023

CAA THEATRE

In September 2021, just as theatres were starting to reopen after the long pandemic hiatus, Crow’s Theatre, one of the city’s most eclectic and adventurous companies, decided to begin with an audacious new show. They said very little about it. Only that it was a “radical retelling by Cliff Cardinal” of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

There were no further details, no cast list, nothing. Of course, most people know As You Like It as one of the bard’s most accessible and whimsical plays. How was Cliff, a young Indigenous playwright and actor acclaimed for his acerbic, mischievous humour and willingness to deal with raw emotions and difficult subject matter, going to retell this classic of Western theatre?

When the show was finally on stage, word spread like wildfire. Its first audiences raved: it was essential viewing, a surprising, powerful, thrilling, and moving piece of theatre they will never forget. As more people saw the show, it became clear that what Cliff was doing with his new work was examining the relationship between the Indigenous community and the rest of Canada. He was showing us what a young and insightful artist from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation sees in the aftermath of the discovery of unmarked graves on the grounds of former residential schools. He was offering us the unvarnished truth of the state of the reconciliation process this country has been attempting for the last few decades. He was using theatre to do what it always had done -- open our eyes to what has been going on before us in plain sight.

Called “the Canadian arts surprise of the year" by the Globe and Mail, Cliff’s brilliant play As You Like It, or The Land Acknowledgement will dazzle and engage you as only the best theatre can.
