Toronto: The Théâtre français de Toronto has been awarded the Prix Senghor-Césaire

Wednesday, June 29, 2022

The Board of Directors and staff of Théâtre français de Toronto would like to extend their warmest thanks to the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF), which has chosen to honour our organization this year by awarding it the Prix Senghor-Césaire.

TfT also thanks Mrs Marie-France Lalonde, Member of Parliament for Orléans, who proposed this nomination.

This prestigious distinction, announced at a time when Canadian theatres were struggling to recover from the ravages of the pandemic, touches us and encourages us to continue our efforts.

This international prize is awarded to TfT in recognition of its contribution, not only to francophonie in its global sense, but also to linguistic and cultural diversity.

"The APF is delighted to recognize the remarkable work done by the Théâtre français de Toronto to promote the French language and original cultural works. With this award, the APF continues to celebrate the richness of all perspectives and sensibilities," said Francis Drouin, First Vice-President of the APF.

The 2022-2023 season that has just been announced is a year of celebration. It marks TfT's 55th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the educational project Les Zinspiré.e.s: a writing contest that encourages Franco-Ontarian youth to express themselves through the performing arts. And now there's yet another reason to celebrate!

TfT has been promoting Francophone artistic creation in Canada since 1967. We are pleased and proud that our work, and that of our predecessors, is being recognized by the members of the APF today.

The award, which comes with a €5000 donation, will be officially presented on July 18th, in Edmonton.
