Monday, July 18, 2022

Kelly Straughan was appointed Executive Director of Theatre Aquarius in July 2022. Kelly has over fifteen years of leadership experience in the arts and culture sector, most recently as Executive Director at Workman Arts – a multidisciplinary arts and mental health organization that is part of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Straughan is also the Board President of the Toronto Alliance of the Performing Arts (TAPA).

Kelly is grateful for the opportunity to join Theatre Aquarius at a pivotal moment in the arts sector. Hamilton is a dynamic city filled with talented artists, and Kelly shares a vision of theatre that is inclusive, accessible and a true reflection of the community it serves. A champion of exceptional programming, Kelly looks forward to collaborating with Artistic Director Mary Francis Moore to expand upon the role of Theatre Aquarius – a hub for creative conversation that celebrates possibility, engages community, fosters innovation and ignites future voices.

“These are transformational times, and as we enter our 50th anniversary, Theatre Aquarius is poised for tremendous growth and renewal,” said Kelly Straughan, Executive Director. “The arts are synonymous with creativity and resiliency. We will continue to harness this intense and sustained evolution to bring you the professional theatre we know and love, while providing development opportunities for emerging artists and contributing to the City of Hamilton.”
