Toronto: Shakespeare in the Ruff announces the cast or its reading of “Queen Margaret” by Jeanie O’Hare on February 26

Friday, February 3, 2023

Join us on February 26 for the second annual Ruff’s Winter Tale, presented this season with the generous support of Crow’s Theatre. Each year, RWT acts as the official launch of our season and initiates our interrogation of the themes, characters, and stories we are focusing on for the year.

For 2023, our season exploring Shakespeare’s Richard III, Ruff’s Winter Tale will be a staged reading of Queen Margaret by Jeanie O’Hare, directed by Kwaku Okyere.

Queen Margaret explores the story of Margaret of Anjou through the Henry VIs to Richard III.

About Queen Margaret: “Hungry for power and angered by their king, the nobles of Henry VI’s court plot and scheme against each other. As Henry wavers and the factions split, Queen Margaret is determined to hold on to power and protect the crown that will one day belong to her son.”

Margaret has more lines than any other female character in Shakespeare’s canon. More than Juliet, Rosalind or Beatrice. But she is often overlooked when we think of great Shakespearean roles. Ruff is thrilled to present Queen Margaret and give this fascinating character her due.

The cast is:

Christine Horne as Margaret PJ Prudat as Joan of Arc Irene Poole as Duke of York Amy Keating as Hume Nathaniel Hanula-James as King Henry VI

Kyra Harper as Earl of Warwick Davinder Malhi as Bagot / Prince Edward / Rutland Peter Fernandes as Suffolk / Clifford Sivert Das as Somerset / Richard Emilio Vieira as Edward IV / Cardinal Tom Rooney as Gloucester / Tutor
