Toronto: Shakespeare in Action announces its 2023 season

Wednesday, March 22, 2023

Our 2023 summer production is Otîhêw, by PJ Prudat. Otîhêw is a Métis-Cree re-imagining of Shakespeare's Othello. The show will run through August in Weston's Memorial Park. Admission is free!

In addition to our summer production, SiA has two new initiatives to announce! "In The Works" is a new initiative that will support the commission of new work to be developed and produced by SiA. Under the banner of the "In the Works" initiative, SiA will continue to develop THE BOOK OF KIT AND MEL, a new TYA musical, book by Deivan Steele and lyrics and composition by Garry Williams.

Our "Community Engaged Theatre Initiative" is a new development initiative that will see SiA partner with non-artistic community service organizations or leaders in Weston to develop theatrical work created in collaboration with community members and professional artists. The first project under this initiative is the Young Creators Theatre Project, which brings together five women and non-binary youth from the Weston area, along with theatre professionals, to create a play exploring the theme of gender-based violence in Shakespeare’s plays.

We will have more exciting programming announcements to come in weeks ahead.
