London, ON: Theatre Æzir presents “The Phoenix Lottery” April 27-May 6

Friday, April 14, 2023

From April 27th to May 6th, Theatre Æzir will present a new live production of The Phoenix Lottery by Allan Stratton at The Grand Theatre’s Auburn Stage. The production is directed by Mike Semple and features Chris Bancroft, Jeff Culbert, Elizabeth Durand, Tyler Lionel Parr, Jessica Pereira, and Jay Gordon Wright. This play had its premiere at The Grand back in 2001. In a tale of infidelity and desperation, where art and vanity compete and cookies fly across the room mid-exorcism, can the Van Gogh Self-Portrait be saved from the flames of the Phoenix Lottery?

“How could anyone not love a show full of characters so perfectly chock full of delightfully hilarious flaws? This is a play that gently skewers religion, art, family relationships and all the little pretensions people use to make it through the day. It has twists and turns that leave seasoned news reporters shaking their heads in wonder; with magic tricks, exorcisms, and special effects galore! We hope you have as much fun watching as we have in staging it.” – Mike Semple, Director

The Phoenix Lottery is Theatre Æzir’s fourth production and most ambitious to date. Theatre Æzir is a professional company creating theatre which challenges the intellect, excites the emotion, and confronts the present. Quirky, edgy and provocative.

Theatre Æzir engages under the terms of the INDIE 2.2, professional Artists who are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association.
