Stratford: Walt Wingfield returns to the Stratford Perth Museum for three Sundays in June

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Stratford, and its long history with the stage, is no stranger to theatrical romances.

Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Tony and Mario from West Side Story – even Brad and Janet in Rocky Horror.

This summer romance will be in the air again as The Stratford Perth Museum presents chapters three, four and five in the Wingfield Farm series.

The backdrop of these three plays is the wonderful and romantic relationship between the lead character, – Walt Wingfield, and the newly-discovered love of his life, – Maggie.

For three consecutive Sunday nights in June, Rod Beattie will deliver one-man shows as a city stockbroker turned gentleman farmer Walt Wingfield.

The iconic rural-themed plays, written by Dan Needles, will begin Sunday June 11 with shows two and three on June 18 and June 25. This is an outdoor venue and there is a provision for rain-dates. All shows start at 7 p.m. sharp.

In 2022, the Stratford Perth Museum was the venue for the entire Wingfield canon in what turned out to be a magical experience at the new Player’s Backstage – which could easily pass for a setting in Persephone Township.

The series was sold-out and even before the lights were dimmed on the last performance, discussions were underway to see if Walt could return in 2023.

“I’m thrilled to be back at Stratford Perth Museum – the perfect setting,” said Rod this week.

“And to be re-living the quintessence of

Wingfield – Wingfield’s Folly (of which he has much), Wingfield Unbound (which curiously frees him) and Wingfield On Ice (which proves there’s more to life than hockey) the journey of Walt Wingfield and his beloved Maggie through tribulation, despair and at last, the affirmation of life itself – hope.”

Tickets are sold on a show-by-show basis. General admission tickets are $45 plus HST. There are a limited number of VIP tickets available for $50 and these include reserved seating in the front two rows.

This is a licenced event.

Tickets are available only via the Stratford Perth Museum website – click HERE. Please note that there are VIP and General Admission options for each performance.
