Toronto: “50 Years of Funny” celebrates The Second City’s 50th anniversary in Canada

Get ready for a night of non-stop laughs as The Second City Toronto celebrates its 50th anniversary with a comedy revue featuring classic sketches created by Canadian comedy icons like Mike Myers, Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, Colin Mochrie and more! Our all-star ensemble will bring to life some of The Second City's most beloved characters, taking you on a hilarious journey through a half-century of comedy.

Four-time Second City alumnus, Emmy nominated and Canadian Comedy Award winner, Kyle Dooley directs, and Jordan Armstrong returns to the National Touring Company as music director. Seann Murray joins the ensemble as stage manager.

The 50 Years of Funny revue tackles everything from proudly ordering a side salad to partying in your 30’s and will leave you convinced that the best vote for Toronto's next Mayor might just be you! With outrageous songs and sketches, side-splitting satire, and improv comedy, this celebration will leave you wanting 50 more years of funny!

The producing team includes Ed Wells (CEO), Carly Heffernan (Artistic Director), Elizabeth Howard (VP of Production), and Alex Bondesen (Producer). Tickets start at $29 and are available by phone at 416-343-0011 or online at secondcity.com. The show schedule is as follows beginning May 4, 2023: Mondays, Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, and Thursdays at 8:30pm, with a 15-minute intermission. The show is rated R, and there is no drink minimum.

Theatre-goers can also enjoy a wide selection of food and drinks, including local craft beers, as well as small bites during the show or make a reservation to dine before or after the performance at our full service restaurant and bar with food by Canadian hospitality leaders Oliver & Bonacini.

About the Artists:

Conor Bradbury (TourCo Ensemble) [he/him] is an actor and comedian who has been performing in Toronto for almost two decades. He is a founding member of multi award winning comedy troupe Sex T-Rex (Just For Laughs Best Comedy, Toronto Sketchfest: Best of Fest, Toronto Fringe: Best Comedy). He is a regular performer with Bad Dog Theatre (Hookup, D&D Live, Theatresports) and has recently appeared in The Howland Company's Entrances and Exits. His film and TV credits include What We Do in the Shadows (FX), Handmaid's Tale (Hulu) and Homeschooled (CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)). He was also once on an episode of Cash Cab. Coko Galore (TourCo Ensemble) [she/they] is an actor, producer, host, comedian who performs across disciplines including live comedy shows, podcasts, panels, events, TV, and film. Her performance credits include TallBoyz (CBC), Pretty Hard Cases (CBC) and Untitled Black Sketch Project. When she’s not performing, Coko Galore drinks lots of water, minds her business, and takes naps! IG: @cokogalore.

Devon Henderson (TourCo Ensemble) [she/her] has been performing with The Second City since 2018, when she was a cast member of Improv Showdown. She has also performed in the Patch Company shows The Second City Totally Likes You and Take Me Out to the Improv: Spooky Edition. She is also an instructor and performer at Bad Dog Theatre, where she was a member of the 2018 Featured Players. Her Bad Dog credits include Theatresports, Super-Hot Date Night, The Rat King, and Toronto, I Love You. Her comedy duo, TwoSon, wrote and performed the critically-acclaimed An Evening with Devon & Jackie at the 2022 Toronto Fringe. Liz Johnston (TourCo Ensemble) [she/her] is an award-winning improviser, actor, and producer. Liz is a member of the Second City National Touring company, and a repertory member of the Bad Dog Theatre Company. She just completed a run of her Canadian Comedy Award nominated show Entrances and Exits at the Tarragon Theatre, which she co-created, and which is available to stream. Over the course of the pandemic Liz worked with Outside The March Theatre Company to develop and perform the highly acclaimed telephonic show The Ministry for Mundane Mysteries which was featured in the New York Times and awarded a special citation from the Toronto Theatre Critics Association. On TV, you can catch her as a series regular on Nickelodeon's Star Falls, or CMT's Almost Genius, as well as on Murdoch Mysteries, and several commercials for snack food. IG: @lizjohnston12.

Scott Yamamura (TourCo Ensemble) [He/him] has been performing on comedy stages for over 2 decades. His screen performance credits include Transplant, Orphan Black: Echoes, and Deep Six. He has also performed in various Second City ensembles including The Education Company, as MainStage Understudy and now The Touring Company. Despite all of this, Scott still can’t dunk a basketball and at this point everyone agrees, it’s highly unlikely.

Shohana Sharmin Sicilia (TourCo Ensemble) [she/her] is a Bangladeshi-born comedian, writer, and theatre artist, and now lives in Toronto with her adorable antisocial cat Ariel. Shohana is a proud Muslim queer woman of colour. She is a recipient of the 2020 Queer Emerging Artist Award at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Shohana is the creator and a cast member of the critically acclaimed award-winning dark sketch comedy revue Dead Parents Society. She presented her solo show Come Here Often? at the 2019 Queer Pride at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. She has performed in comedy and theatre festivals across North America with her award-winning troupe Not Oasis (2017 The Toronto Fringe Patrons Pick, NOW Critic’s Pick). She wishes she could be more like her mother.

Jordan Armstrong (TourCo Music Director) [she/her] is a versatile composer, musical director and performer known for her improvised accompaniment and band leading. Highlights include composing for and musical directing three critically acclaimed Second City Mainstage reviews, Death Ray Cabaret (Best of the Fest, Outstanding Performance, Outstanding Production Toronto Fringe 2019), One Night Only (Dora nominee, Outstanding Musical Direction), The Adventures of Tom Shadow (Canadian Comedy Award winner), the award-winning CBC Kids Podcast The Story Store and the spontaneous live music show Improv Karaoke. Her debut solo EP ‘DUAL’ is available everywhere.

Kyle Dooley (TourCo Music Director) [he/him] is an actor and writer who got his start with the multiple Canadian Comedy Award winning sketch troupe Picnicface. After millions of youtube hits, touring the country with live shows and festivals like Just for Laughs and getting praise from the likes of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay on Funnyordie.com, Picnicface got its own TV show on the Comedy network. As a writer Kyle has contributed sketch comedy to TripTank (Comedy Central), The Irrelevant Show (CBC Radio) and he was a cast member of four Main Stage Revues at Second City Toronto. Kyle also writes and acts for children’s and adult animation including Gary and His Demons (Amazon Prime, Comedy Central UK), Cupcake & Dino: General Services (Netflix) and Ollie’s Pack (Nickelodeon.) Kyle also wrote and acted on the hit preschool show Miss Persona (Treehouse) which was nominated for a daytime Emmy. You can hear him playing a goofy robot on the upcoming season of Paw Patrol. Seann Murray (TourCo Stage Manager) [he/him] is an actor, improvisor and stage manager from Fredericton, N.B., where he got his start with Theatre Free Radical. Selected SM credits include Second City’s If I could #Throwback Time, Laura Ramoso’s Frances, Ron Pederson’s Miracle on Queen St. and the Canadian Comedy Award winning The Adventures of Tom Shadow. Seann is also the head technician for Bad Dog Comedy Theatre, and a member of multi-award-winning comedy company Sex T-Rex.
