Toronto: Casting announced for The Second City Toronto’s 88th mainstage revue

Fresh from celebrating its 50th Anniversary in Toronto, iconic comedy institution, The Second City is proud to announce the cast and crew of The Second City Toronto's 88th Revue. Second City Alum and cast member of the legendary Royal Canadian Air Farce Darryl Hinds will direct his first resident stage revue with a cast that includes returning mainstage company members PHATT al and Andy Assaf. Ron Pederson, Coko Galore, Liz Johnston and Devon Henderson will join the ensemble. Shane O'Regan joins as musical director, and Matt Keevins will return as stage manager. Kyle Dooley will come on board as assistant director and Tricia Black will collaborate as Creative Consultant.

The producing team includes Ed Wells (CEO), Elizabeth Howard (VP of Production), Parisa Jalili (Chief Operating Officer), Carly Heffernan (Creative Lead) and Susan Waycik (Producer). Tickets start at $30 and are available by phone at 416-343-0011 or online at secondcity.com. The show schedule beginning August 2023: Tuesdays-Thursdays at 8pm; Fridays & Saturdays at 7pm; and Sundays at 7pm.

The Second City Toronto is a fully accessible facility.

About the Artists:

Andy Assaf (Ensemble) [he/him] is an improviser, sketch comedian, and filmmaker from Montreal. After studying and producing extensively with the Montreal Improv Theatre, Andy relocated to Toronto, where he was a member of the 2019 Bad Dog Theatre Featured Players. When not performing at Second City, Andy sometimes tours with long-form improv duo Frank Mythic, where he and his comedy partner Dimitri Kyres improvise a unique Steven King-style novel every show. TV credits include The Recruit (Netflix) and Workin' Moms (CBC). You can follow him @sweetandysour.

Tricia Black (Creative Consultant) [she/they] is a multi-award-winning actor, comedian, writer, and songwriter. They hold two Canadian Screen Awards for their performances in the indie web series Band Ladies and the hit animation Summer Memories. Tricia is an alumna of The Second City and the Creative Director for Tweed & Company Theatre. They hold two Canadian Comedy Awards for Best Live Production, A Sketch Comedy Extravaganza Eleganza and Best Ensemble, She The People. They have appeared in Baroness Von Sketch (CBC), What We Do In The Shadows (FX), Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3 (Disney) and Bad Behind Bars: Jodi Arias (Lifetime/Cineflix), Summer Memories (Aircraft Pictures), Dear David: The Haunting of Adam Ellis (Lionsgate/Buzzfeed) and Pretty Hard Cases (CBC).

Kyle Dooley (Assistant Director) [he/him] is an actor and writer who got his start with the multiple Canadian Comedy Award-winning sketch troupe Picnicface. After millions of YouTube hits, touring the country with live shows and festivals like Just for Laughs and getting praise from the likes of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay on Funnyordie.com, Picnicface got its own TV show on the Comedy network. As a writer, Kyle has contributed sketch comedy to TripTank (Comedy Central), The Irrelevant Show (CBC Radio), and he was a cast member of four Main Stage Revues at Second City Toronto. He is also the current director of the Second City National Touring Company. Kyle also writes and acts for children's and adult animation, including Gary and His Demons (Amazon Prime, Comedy Central UK), Cupcake & Dino: General Services (Netflix) and Ollie's Pack (Nickelodeon.) Kyle also wrote and acted on the hit preschool show Miss Persona (Treehouse), which was nominated for a daytime Emmy. You can hear him playing a goofy robot on the upcoming season of Paw Patrol. Love to his incredible wife Hannah and anxious dog Peanut.

Coko Galore (Ensemble) [she/they] is an actor, producer, host, and comedian who performs across disciplines including live comedy shows, podcasts, panels, events, TV, and film. Her performance credits include The Accused (FOX), TallBoyz (CBC), Pretty Hard Cases (CBC) and Untitled Black Sketch Project. When she's not performing, Coko Galore drinks lots of water, minds her business, and takes naps! IG~ @cokogalore

Devon Henderson (Ensemble) [she/her] has been performing with The Second City since 2018, when she was a cast member of Improv Showdown. She has also performed with Second City's Tourco and in the Patch Company shows The Second City Totally Likes You and Take Me Out to the Improv: Spooky Edition. She is also an instructor and performer at Bad Dog Theatre, where she was a member of the 2018 Featured Players. Her Bad Dog credits include Theatresports, Super Hot Date Night, The Rat King, and Toronto, I Love You. Her comedy duo, TwoSon, wrote and performed the critically acclaimed An Evening with Devon & Jackie at the 2022 Toronto Fringe. Darryl Hinds (Director) [he/him] is an alum of The Second City, where he wrote and performed in five revues for the mainstage theatre. Since his days at the Second City, Darryl has worked in TV as a regular on shows like CBC's Little Mosque on the Prairie and The Ninth (CBC Gem). He was a cast member of the legendary TV sketch troupe The Royal Canadian Air Farce (CBC) and was one of the stars of CBC Gem and Hulu's original series Overlord and The Underwoods. Darryl's also had brief writing stints for CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes and CityTV's Sunnyside. He continues to work as an actor and writer throughout the industry.

Liz Johnston (Ensemble) [she/her] is an award-winning improviser, actor, and producer. She is so happy to be joining the Second City Mainstage company! Liz has been a repertory member of the Bad Dog Theatre Company and the co-creator of the hit show and Canadian Comedy Award Nominated Entrances & Exits. She has also worked collaboratively to bring other hit shows to the stage, including Roses & Thorns (Bad Dog Theatre), The Ministry of Mundane Mysteries (Outside The March), and Hookup (Bad Dog Theatre). On TV, you can catch her as a series regular on Nickelodeon's Star Falls or CMT's Almost Genius, as well as on Murdoch Mysteries, CBC Comedy, and several commercials for snack food and eggs. Matt Keevins (Stage Manager) [he/him] specializes in improv and sketch comedy. Select credits include The Weight of it All (Toronto Fringe), An Evening with Devon and Jackie (Toronto Fringe), Something Small, Something Sweet (Hamilton Fringe), and Come Here Often? (Buddies in Bad Times). He's worked as a theatre tech at Comedy Bar, in The Second City Training Center and has understudied for Second City's Mainstage and Touring Company. Matt is often shocked that he has made a whole career out of pushing buttons with great comedic timing!

Shane O'Regan (Music Director) [he/him] is a Pianist/Musical Director/Instructor based in Toronto. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Shane studied piano with Oksana Zotova at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. He is a graduate of both the Randolph College for the Arts in Toronto and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's MA Musical Theatre Performance program in Glasgow. Recent work on the piano includes Let's Dance! (Terra Bruce Productions), Lucky Stiff, We Will Rock You, Avenue Q, Urinetown (Stephenville Theatre Festival), The Rocky Horror Show (St. Lawrence College), Mission Totally Possible, She the People (The Second City), Lig & Bittle, The Incredible Adventures of Mary Jane Mosquito (Carousel Players), The Hobbit, The Last Five Years (RBC Chrysalis Project Participant – Neptune Theatre).

Ron Pederson (Ensemble) [he/him] is an actor, improviser, director, and writer who has worked across Canada with many theatres, including; The Stratford Festival, Soulpepper Theatre, The Tarragon Theatre, CanStage, Coal Mine Theatre, RMTC, Alberta Theatre Projects, Arts Club Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, Theatre Passè Murielle, The Belfry, and The Citadel Theatre. As an improviser, Ron has collaborated with companies in Berlin, Oslo, Vienna, Amsterdam, Chicago and NYC. Ron's television credits include three seasons on MADtv (Fox), The Late Late Show (CBS), Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), Degrassi (CTV), SideKick (YTV), New Eden (Crave), Private Eyes (Global), When Hope Calls (Hallmark), The Next Step (NBC Kids) Ron is the recipient of multiple Canadian Comedy Awards, the Dora Mavor Moore Award, The SummerWorks Performance Award and The RBC Arts Professional Award. PHATT al (Ensemble) [he/they] (pronounced "fat al") is a Dora and Juno nominated actor, MC, digital visual artist, director, song, and sketch writer. A Second City Mainstage alumnus, he was the band leading rapper of the Juno nominated NuFunk band God Made ME Funky. He (and/or his voice) has appeared in various commercials, TV shows, and movies. You may know him as the Juicy Fruit Man or the voice of Wendy's Canada, Rice Krispie bars, and Eggo waffles. Al was a featured performer at the NBC Universal Second City Break Out Comedy Festival in Chicago and was a recipient of both the Second City's Bob Curry Fellowship and Bad Dog Theatre's Creator program. He is also the creator of Yes Yes Y'all and Check the Rhyme, the only long-form improv hip-hop classes in Canada, as well as a member of "The Untitled Black Sketch Project" sketch troupe.
