Toronto: Tarragon Theatre celebrates community, artists and care

Friday, September 15, 2023

Last Friday, September 8, Tarragon Theatre recognized a $13,800 Capital grant awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded late last year, has helped the Theatre in recovering from the impact of COVID-19 and help build resiliency for the future. At the celebration, Mike Payette, Artistic Director of Tarragon Theatre, and Managing Director Andrea Vagianos, welcomed artists, dedicated community members, and valued supporters to mark the beginning of Tarragon’s 53rd season.

Thanks to OTF’s Capital grant provided, Tarragon has enhanced care-focused spaces for artists, including backstage artist areas and shower facilities which underwent a transformative upgrade. These enhancements have elevated the experience for Tarragon artists, providing them with an optimal environment to create and showcase their work.

“Congratulations to Tarragon Theatre on the well-deserved Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation! This funding not only recognizes the incredible talent and dedication of the Tarragon team, but also underscores the vital role that the arts play in our communities – something I have personally benefitted from through taking part in the rich exchange of ideas that Tarragon’s many panels and inventive storytelling make possible. Tarragon Theatre’s work has been a source of inspiration and entertainment to countless others for over five decades, and this grant will undoubtedly enable them to continue making a meaningful impact on our cultural landscape here in St. Paul’s and beyond. This grant is also an example of the kind of support for the arts that we desperately need more of in this province. I am deeply proud of all the writers, actors, and other artists who will bring us another great season of live original theatre. Cheers to a brighter and even more artistically vibrant future for Tarragon Theatre!” said MPP Jill Andrew.
