The greatest love letter ever written. De Profundis: Oscar Wilde in Jail is a musical fantasy based on the letter Oscar Wilde wrote while incarcerated for two years at Reading Gaol, to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. Wilde, prohibited from writing to his lover, while at Reading Gaol, wrote a page a day over a period of three months. The letter was collected at the end of each day, and handed over to Wilde on his release from prison and published years after his death.

De Profundis marks the second original, musical collaboration featuring direction by Gregory Prest, music by Mike Ross and lyrics by Sarah Wilson following the four time Dora Award winning 2019's Rose: A New Musical.

Prest, Ross and Wilson reunite to reinvent the modern musical, allowing an intimate insight into the mind of a revered playwright, poet and philosopher. This brilliant trio of artists have been with Soulpepper for over a decade.
