Toronto: “God is a Scottish Drag Queen: The Second Coming” runs November 14-17

Friday, October 25, 2024

When Canadian comedian Mike Delamont (www.mikedelamont.com) first conceived and developed his one-man production God is a Scottish Drag Queen, he greatly underestimated its popularity with audiences around the world. More than 10 years later, by popular demand Delamont's output has grown to four shows, which he tours around the world to great acclaim.

The original show in the series played a sold-out run at Toronto’s CAA Theatre in 2022. The Delamont brings the second show, God is a Scottish Drag Queen: The Second Coming, to our city for five performances only: November 14 – 17, 2024 at the CAA Theatre.

Tickets are available now at mirvish.com or by calling 1.800.461.3333

About The Show:

In God is a Scottish Drag Queen: The Second Coming, God, dressed in a floral power suit, comes down to Earth to set the record straight and expound on everything from Noah's Ark to Star Wars and answer humankind's most asked questions in a hilarious and unforgettable night of comedy. It’s a brilliant look at major political topics, biblical history, pop culture and humanity through the eyes of a silly, foul mouthed, and very loveable Scottish Deity who is clearly in on the joke.

Delamont insists his show does not poke fun at one’s faith. In fact, God is the comedian, not the punchline. Says Delamont: “The audiences for my shows come from all backgrounds, from a rainbow of faiths. And it isn’t just laypeople, they include nuns, preachers and pastors ... and atheists, too.”

The title character of the show was created in a monthly cabaret called Atomic Vaudeville and was an instant hit. In 2011, Mike Delamont created the very first one-act production of God is a Scottish Drag Queen and began touring it on the North American fringe circuit. In 2015, the show was developed into a two-act theatrical production that has now spawned two full length sequels and a Christmas special.

The inspiration for Delamont’s character came from the depiction of God in the Sistine Chapel. The image of a very serious, even angry looking God in, what appears to be, a gentle, pink negligee became the origin of what has become an insanely popular franchise of shows.

Recently at a post-show meet and greet, an audience member said, “Four years ago, my wife took me to see your show and I said, 'We are seeing a show called WHAT!?!?'. I didn't really want to go. We have seen you six times now and each time we bring more people. We wouldn't miss it for the world.”
