Barrie: Talk Is Free Theatre presents “Madame Minister” November 28-December 7

Monday, November 11, 2024

Taking office November 28, Madame Minister is Charlotte Corbeil-Coleman's hilarious adaptation of Branislav Nušić's The Cabinet Minister's Wife (1929), the Serbian comedy considered to be one of the funniest theatrical creations of all time. After yet another toppling of the government, Zivka waits anxiously to hear if her husband will be named to the new cabinet. She anticipates making the most of the official (and unofficial!) perks of his appointment, including coercing her son-in-law to leave her daughter. However, we all know what too much power can do to a persominin, especially when, in reality, they have none.

Directed by Layne Coleman, Madame Minister will be staged site-specifically in a beautiful heritage home at 142 Collingwood Street in Barrie. Stratford and Soulpepper veteran Laura Condlin makes her Talk Is Free Theatre debut in the titular role. Condlin is joined by several artists familiar to the TIFT audiences, including Noah Beemer (Sweeney Todd, The Judas Kiss), Aidan deSalaiz (Into the Woods, The Judas Kiss), Gabi Epstein (Sweeney Todd, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Mariya Khomutova (First Métis Man of Odessa), Cyrus Lane (La Bête, Sweeney Todd) and Nolan Moberly (Tales of an Urban Indian).

Rounding out the cast is newcomer to the TIFT stage Brittany Kay. The production will be designed by Varvara Evchuk and Shaquille Pottinger will serve as Assistant Director. Production Manager is Maya Royer, Stage Manager Meghan Speakman and Assistant Stage Manager Alysse Szatkowski. Madame Minister is presented by Kim Kieller and Fred Strangway, Peter Koetsier and Wendy Wingfelder.

This is a site-specific production and capacity is limited, so get your tickets today!
