Toronto: Canadian Stage introduces the cast of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

Tuesday, November 19, 2024

Meet the real-life couples playing the iconic Martha & George and Nick & Honey in Edward Albee's thrilling masterpiece.

Paul Gross (King Lear, Stratford Festival; Due South, CBS) and Martha Burns (Slings and Arrows, CBC), two of the most acclaimed actors in the country, have not performed on stage together since the fall of 2015 when they starred in a production of Domesticated at Canadian Stage's Berkeley Street Theatre.

Mac Fyfe was most recently seen as Stanley in Soulpepper Theatre’s celebrated production of A Streetcar Named Desire; Dora-winner Hailey Gillis (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, Crow's Theatre) is one of the country’s most luminous musical theatre stars.

Directing this explosive drama is Canadian Stage's Artistic Director Brendan Healy whose direction of last season's The Inheritance was heralded as "a casually confident staging that fills the full spread of its stage powerfully." (Globe and Mail).

Joining Healy on the creative team for this production are set and costume designer Julie Fox, lighting designer Kimberly Purtell, sound designer Thomas Ryder Payne and fight and intimacy director Anita Nittoly.
