Toronto: Cahoots Theatre announces its 2024/25 season

Friday, December 6, 2024

We are pleased to share with you our artistic slate for 2024/25, this time around with all of our programming falling in the new year. After some challenges, and amidst chaos in our world, a season wholly in the new calendar feels like exhaling and turning the page.

This season features a memorable collaboration with an extraordinary community partner, a devised creation by a pair of brilliant Crossing Gibraltar alumni artists, a partnered production of an original solo work that just might surprise you, and a weeklong smorgasbord of activity to mark the end of spring and wave us into summer.

We cherish all who support Cahoots, and thank all who continue to show up for our small but scrappy company. It truly means the world to us.

LOVE And The TRICK Of TIME

a Cahoots Theatre production

in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto

Special Presentation Fri Feb 14th to Sun Feb 16th, 2025 | 1:30 pm

Tarragon Theatre Mainspace

Love and the Trick of Time explores our perception of time, and how the reality of loving those living with dementia changes our experience of it. Weaving together the stories of care partners, it lifts the veil on what it is to love someone living with the disease as time becomes non-linear, transporting you from the present to the past to an uncertain future. Along with rich, unforgettable individual storytelling, these narratives are woven into music performed by the Golden Threads Choir - a unique ensemble of people living with dementia along with their care partners - whose singing illicits joy, connectedness, and relationship to memories. This multidisciplinary production showcases the songs, stories, visual art and voices of people living with dementia in addition to those of their loved ones, capturing the essential fabric of community and connection at its core.

Created with the Timeless Love Ensemble

Directed by Tanisha Taitt and Kristin Bartlett

Funded in Part by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program

EASTER SOMEDAY

a Stakes & Embers production in partnership with Cahoots Theatre

April 5th to 13th, 2025 Native Earth Performing Arts’ AKI Studio

Just shy of three decades after the Canadian Music Publishers Association presented her with the CMPA Songwriters Award and Scholarship, and over ten years after stepping away from the musical stage, a member of our Cahoots family returns to her roots as a solo performing artist with Easter Someday. Accompanied on piano by the venerable Beau Dixon, she revisits her singer-songsmith origins in this fictional but intimate work, featuring a collection of new original songs. A deeply personal resurgence, the show marks her first public musical appearance since the ravages of COVID-19 left her with the ghost of her former singing voice in 2020.

In the months following a searing loss, a woman whose artistic expression has fallen prey to the thief of grief longs to revive her passion, while also striving to retain… or regain… a grip on her life and future. With her security in question and at risk of disappearing, things take another numbing turn when a complicated gift from beyond the here and now stops her cold, and a crucial unexpected decision leaves her torn between internal bondage and external freedom.

Written, composed and performed by Tanisha Taitt

Directed by Allen MacInnis

SANGUINE

a Cahoots Theatre production

April 27th to May 10th, 2025 BMO Incubator at The Theatre Centre

The dark does not devour; it reveals.

It is the canvas upon which light dances,

a whisper urging you to awaken,

to rise and claim what has always been yours.

Seek not to banish the night,

but to find the stars it hides.

For even in the blackest void,

your essence burns brighter than the unknown.

- PA and MZ

Conceived, created and performed by Parastoo Amanzadeh and Mina Zaghari
