Toronto: Opera 5 project wins Opera America Award for Digital Excellence in Opera
Tuesday, December 3, 2024
We are honoured to announce that Threepenny Submarine Season One took home the International “Noteworthy Project” prize at OPERA America's Digital Excellence Awards in Opera! The Noteworthy project category recognizes works that cross traditional boundaries, broaden accessibility onstage and off, achieve digital technical innovations, and/or expand the definition of opera. We are so grateful to the amazing team that made Threepenny possible, our co-producers Gazelle Automations, all the amazing artists who gave their absolute best to make this series so special.
OPERA America's Awards for Digital Excellence in Opera recognize the best projects created for digital platforms and encourage further investment in this vibrant aspect of opera. We are honoured to be recognized among such incredible artists and organizations, and a huge congratulations to our fellow finalists!
We have to give a shout out to the winner of The Artistic Creation Award, our fellow Canadians at Bicycle Opera Project (producers Larissa Koniuk and Jennifer Nichols) with Sweat! Threepenny Submarine and Sweat both winning meant that 50% of the winning projects this year were Canadian. We are really proud and honoured to help continue Canada’s prominence at these awards and are humbled to join past winners Rebecca and Rachel Gray’s Jess in 2023 and Against the Grain’s Messiah Complex in 2022.
