Stratford: Here For Now Theatre announces its 2024 season

Monday, February 12, 2024

HERE FOR NOW THEATRE announced its inspired 5-play 2024 Season playing June 19th - September 28th, 2024. Due to the success of last season’s LIMITED ENGAGEMENT SERIES, HFN will also be sprinkling these performance throughout their already electric 5-show Season (Limited Engagement Series to announced at a later date). Performances will take place back in the tent at The Stratford Perth Museum in a new and improved location that is closer to the building.

The exciting 2024 Season will open on June 19th with the world premiere of PAUL AND LINDA PLAN A THREESOME by Jane Cooper Ford. In this comedy, an uptight Rosedale couple encounter a hilariously disastrous night when they open-mindedly plan a threesome to save their marriage. Directed by Megan Watson.

Second in the line up, is a new piece from HFN audience favourite, playwright Steve Ross. Ross’s play Life Without, which played to audiences in August of last season, was a huge success and HFN is delighted to present 12 DINNERS directed by Jan Smith and opening on July 10th. A heartfelt, funny and autobiographical look into one family's journey towards understanding each other… a tall order to say the least.

Thirdly, a Canadian Premiere, written by Irish playwright, Deirdre Kinahan entitled THE SAVIOUR directed by Brenda Bazinet. This riveting two-hander was first produced by Landmark Productions at the Irish Repertory Theatre. A fiercely funny and utterly gripping play charting an extraordinary shift in Ireland’s social, political, and religious life. It asks questions about responsibility, how we respond to trauma, and the tricky question of forgiveness. This play will star Rosemary Dunsmore, alongside her real life son, Robert Gerow.

Next up, directed by Marie Farsi, is WITH LOVE AND A MAJOR ORGAN a Canadian Premiere by internationally acclaimed playwright Julia Lederer. Not only was this piece produced at the Boise Contemporary Theatre and in French at Theatre L’epic in Paris, it was also nominated for “Best Production” by the Drama Critics Circle for its run at Boston Court in Los Angeles. An eccentric, edgy comedy about what it costs to give your heart away, and what happens when you discover you actually have one.

Closing out the season, DINNER WITH THE DUCHESS by award-winning playwright, Nick Green. After a wildly successful run of Casey and Diana at the Stratford Festival, HFN is honoured to be presenting this World Premiere, directed by Kelli Fox and starring Jan Smith. At the end of a storied career, violin virtuoso Margaret gives her final interview to a young, savvy reporter. Aided by her ever-charming husband, Margaret must confront secrets and ghosts of the past to face the impossible question: how will she be remembered?

"This season, all the main plays feature characters who are being asked to grapple with self acceptance. So why, at this moment, has this theme emerged? Maybe it is because we live in a time where shame slinging seems to be a strong social currency. And the work of self-acceptance is the ultimate antidote to this. If we work towards anchoring our self-worth internally, by accepting all the bits of ourselves and bringing them all along for the ride, we take the power out of this shame because nothing that is said about us can rock the bone-deep relationship that we have cultivated with ourselves. Ambitious, but why not give it a go?”
