We have some amazing news to share. Tickets are now on sale for our spook-tastic production of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw!

Come on out to see our first return to live opera since 2018!! Featuring not one, but TWO stellar casts: our main cast of exceptional Canadian artists (performing June 12, 14, & 15), and our Opera Interns (performing June 13th).

Our main cast includes some Opera 5 familiar and new faces: Asitha Tennekoon (Prologue/Peter Quint), Elizabeth Polese (Governess), Krisztina Szabó (Mrs. Grose), Ryan McDonald (Miles), Thera Barclay (Flora), and Rachel Krehm (Miss Jessel). Our brand new Opera Intern Program, in partnership with Opera McGill, welcomes six early-career artists into the Opera 5 family: Patricia Yates (Prologue/Peter Quint), Kate Fogg (Governess), MacKenzie Sechi (Mrs. Grose), Mala Weissberg (Miles), Paige Robinson (Flora), and Bri Jones (Miss Jessel). They are joined by conductor Evan Mitchell, Music Director of the Kingston Symphony and director Amanda Smith, Artistic Director of FAWN Chamber Creative. Music Staff will be led by Trevor Chartrand. The show will be designed by Shannon-Lea Doyle and the lighting designer will be Noah Feaver. The show will also feature the FULL chamber ensemble of 13 players as originally envisioned by Benjamin Britten.

If we haven’t convinced you yet, our production features a new spin on this classic tale. Our incredible director, Amanda Smith, tells us that about her production which “takes us to the quiet corners of the late Victorian era where magical and spiritualist practices are found. Ideological polarities with dominant beliefs bubble up and we see that dangers lie in the stories told about the other.”
